Every nation attaches enormous value to sporting success.
Sometimes that value is quantified in financial terms with figures quoted such
as "each Olympic medal costs £2million" or when England’s cricketers won the
Ashes or Martin Johnson lifted the Rugby World Cup we simply say success is
"priceless."
So surely, with Great Britain aiming to win 50 medals in the
London 2012 Olympics, the nation would not turn its back on a huge pool of
potential talent for an entirely arbitrary reason?
